RA Higgs was born in Glen Dale, WV. This was home, and throughout his teenage years, he never thought he would leave. Glen Dale is located 8.7 miles south of Wheeling, WV, along the banks of the Ohio River. College took him to WVU for almost four years with three changes in major; ultimately, he transferred to Mount Vernon Nazarene College (MVNC, now MVNU). He spent 2.5 years at MVNC and finally graduated after 6 years of undergraduate studies. He went on to earn a Master’s degree. He met the love of his life at MVNC and will be celebrating 30 years of marriage in 2025. After marriage, he has lived in Dayton, OH; Wilshire, OH; Toledo, OH; Corry, PA; back to Glen Dale for several years; and now resides in Mount Vernon, OH. He and Karen, his wife, have 2 adult children who are finding their way in life. Some of his hobbies include sketching and other art forms, reading, photography, and exploring new things. In 2024, he and Karen traveled to Scotland. It was an amazing trip exploring many interesting castles and other locations. They fell in love with Stonehaven and were able to stay there as their base for 2 weeks. They especially enjoyed being only 1.5 miles from Dunnottar Castle - a castle which once belonged to Karen’s ancestors. At home, they have 6 cats and a new puppy. He has had an interest in writing since high school, though he did not take the time to write regularly until recent years. His first book, The Widow’s Resolve, is the first in a series of Blackthorn Hollow/Ellie Harper Mysteries. In addition to the second book in the series, he has started work on 2 other novels, with 2 beyond that in outline form.
